The Zyxel MES3500 series provides wire-speed flow control by classifying and prioritizing incoming packets based on predefined QoS criteria that fulfill service provider requirements. In terms of classification, the 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) field and the Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) field are used to determine the priority of incoming packets. Classification and reclassification can be based on a variety of parameters, including IP, MAC, VLAN, and TCP/UDP port numbers. The MES3500 series includes 8 priority queues per port for different categories of traffic for bandwidth control, allowing service providers to define policy-based rate limits that take full advantage of constrained network resources and ensure the greatest performance. Service providers are concerned about subscribers interfering with each other on a shared network or device. The Zyxel MES3500 series includes a comprehensive set of security capabilities for safeguarding user data while managing traffic.
